Kennels Lodge is a remodelled property which has transformed two adjoined houses into one seven-bedroom lodge house.
Originally, the lodge was the kennel keeper’s house and work rooms for the Gordon Castle dogs. It is historically important as the place the Gordon Setter was first bred. It is partially for this reason and partly due to the rare use of red sandstone in their construction that the Lodge is a Grade 1 listed building.
Kennels Lodge, which was completed to a detailed and beautiful standard only opened its doors to guests at the beginning of 2022. It compromises of 7 double or twin bedrooms (all but 1 is en suite, however that bedroom has its own dedicated bathroom). There is plenty of room for everyone in Kennels lodge, including a bedroom with its own external door which could afford a degree of privacy to a chef or au-pair.
A house that sleeps so many of course needs to have an appropriate entertaining space for everyone to enjoy one another’s company. The large lounge area is perfect for just that, as it naturally flows into the Lodges very own Orangery. The Orangery is a bright and airy conservatory dining room that can seat up to 14 guests, and it truly is a wonderful space. The brand-new fitted kitchen, drying room and utility room ensure that the Lodge is more than equipped for up to 14 guests.
Kennels Lodge is situated in a large forest and has an extensive area for walking and exploring. It also has a generous, dog-proof front garden. Despite having your own seclusion and privacy, the Lodge has a good internet connection and is also very close to the Gordon Castle Walled Garden and the Gordon Castle fishings. There is ample parking for those who are driving up.

We stayed at Kennels Lodge for a retreat. We couldn’t have picked a better Airbnb! It was spacious for 12 guests, very well stocked for cooking and overall perfect for hosting. The interior design was beautiful and the bedrooms very comfortable. There were large, green outdoor spaces and a lovely dinning room we spent lots of time in. It is a quick walk to the Gordon Castle walled garden, but otherwise pretty remote, which we did not mind as it was very peaceful. There was also a very friendly horse we befriended:) Highly recommend!
The Kennels was a superb location for a 90th birthday celebration. We all enjoyed spending time at the house and around the Gordon Castle estate – ages from 4 years to 93.Beautiful surroundings and easy walks for our dogs (and a wonderful and secure garden for both dogs and children)
